A sobering statistic

"Nine out of ten children between the ages of 8 and 16 with Internet access have viewed pornographic websites. . . ."
Yep, I have internet access. That means that by the time my kids are 16, they have a 90% chance of viewing porn. . . .That makes me sick! As a parent, I have a hard time imagining such a thing happening with my kids, but I know I can never be too safe. The article also says:
While there's no question that setting guidelines and putting safety measures in place are critically important, parents should keep in mind that sometimes children are introduced to pornography outside the home, away from those safety measures. Filters and other protections may not be in place at friends' houses, hence the importance of arming kids with information.

Hmmm. Do you mind if I link to this article from my Protecting Innocence Project? This is exactly why I wanted to make more tools available to parents. Scary, scary world.

It happens! As much as you try to protect your children, they can and do find loopholes.

We were visiting our parents for a couple days before leaving the kids with them so Dan and I could go on a trip before the twins birth. They have their computer in the dining room and full view from the living, safe place. The day before we left I was trying to google something and previous searches popped up, porn. My 25 yr old bro-in-law was visiting also...hmmm. But I soon found some familiar name searches, busted! One of my kids got up after everyone was in bed and surfed porn! At least we caught it before we left on our trip then it go on for a week! Promptly grounded from computer and grandpa was told so it could be enforced. Several months later my laptop was used to access porn. My computer is password protected and I figure I must have left it open when I went to the hospital. I didn't notice the history for 3 months, don't know which kid it was (no admissions) but I believe it wasn't the same kid that was caught before.

Let me tell you, it's tough! I HATE HATE HATE IT!

For the last year my children haven't been able to use my computer w/o telling me exactly where they are going and have to use it in the same room as me. Plus, I check my history frequently.
