Your 5 year-old is home from school, sick (puking), and you can't decide: Do you take the poor, sick child to the store with you to get sick juice (aka gatorade) and other items to make sickness less horrible OR do you leave them at home in the peace of their own blanket watching cartoons?
I won't tell you which decision I made, but it was a tough one.

As a doctor's wife, I ALWAYS get the medicine! Maybe sad the in the short run but ALWAYS better in the long run :) Is that what you did?
Okay, since you're dying to know: I waited till Eliza got home (for moral support) and left she and Davis at home in the basement with the telephone and Dad's cell phone number--in case of an emergency (since mine is no longer working). I also left them strict instructions NOT to answer the door (even if it was someone they knew). I then left quickly and was home in 22 minutes--luckily the grocery store is only 5 minutes from the house!!
We got home and everyone was okay, they didn't even get around to bugging their Dad because the show was so intense!
Sorry he is sick! I can only say, you are brave. I couldn't bring myself to do that. My 5 yr old would burn the house down or mortally wound herself somehow even being sick and just lying there while I'm gone.
Oh, I hate these kinds of dilemmas. I started to read your answer above, but stopped myself. I'll read it after I finish this comment.
If this is a child who's perfectly safe at home--doesnt' get into stuff (cuz I have both kinds), I'd call the home phone from the cell phone and hand the home phone to the child. I'd keep him on the phone until I got back--talking to him the entire time.
If it were the child who gets into stuff, I'd grab him a bowl and strap him into the car. We'd be hitting the road.
Good choice :)
Hope he's feeling better!
Okay, Camilla, I don't think there's anything horrible about the choice you made, but all I have to say is that this kind of thing is exactly what I wish the people I visit teach would call me about. I could run to the store, bring them pedialite and then say to myself "yes! yes! Visiting teaching that was easy, helpful AND meaningful."
Yeah, I was pretty sure my decision would be kindof controversial-- I would NEVER have left Roger alone. And with Eliza around (very responsible and a total tattle-tale) I figured no shenanigans would occur.
Ooh! I second Steph! Good comment.
But before I would've done what you did and just not told anyone. Both of my kids would've sat in front of the tv and not moved. My only fear would've been the door but I know they both would've been obedient to my strict instructions not to go near the door.
More power to you!
Oh man sorry he is sick! ♥ Hugs!
