How did we get here (in this recession)?

I'm sure this question has been in the back of everyone's mind lately. If you are like me (an admitted insomniac) then you've even been up late at night with these racing questions plagueing your mind.

I just read this article in BYU Magazine that simply and succinctly explains how we got here. I thought it was informative and not too 'over-your-head.' I would, however, like to attend a forum of economists that debate the current 'Stimulus Package.' Anyone else out there a little wary?

I really liked this article, too, and may still post about it on my blog. And I'm wary about EVERYTHING now.

Thanks for passing that along. Insightful, to say the least. I've found myself saying how crazy it all is, but really it makes sense. It still isn't easy, but it's good to be educated.

I'm so glad you included the link to that article. I'm pretty uneducated when it comes to all that and that article did a great job explaining to me in general how it all has come about.

Not really commenting on the economy--too scared to think about it. I actually wondered if you could send me your email. I have a good friend who has a 2 year old, a 1 year old and a set of 2 week old twin girls...she has that wild look in her eye..the one I am sure you are familiar with and I thought maybe you could become friends. I think you'd like her besides. She has a very dry sense of humor and her hubby is doing a phd in evolutionary biology here in Buffalo. She is a blogger too, so I thought maybe you could help her through the twins trauma? email me at alaskaturner@gmail.com and we'll figure out how to hook you two up. Congrats on baby #4...buy lots of pink for YOU! ak

agree,
what is wrong with saving (like our parents did) to buy a house. what is wrong with telling ourselves NO, we can not buy this or that instead of putting it on a card. Somethings are better done the old fashion way - paying in full with hard earned cash. Our generation is full of greed and entitlement. People have lost the understanding that our country is about having opportunities, but along with opportunities are consequences.

People in society today are latter day Gadianton Robbers! Their greed is the downfall of our society. Oh yeah and the evil banks...don't even get me going on them.

Wary is nice way of putting it. What happens when you keep bailing out people who don't use money wisely? They don't learn unless they realize there is no safety net.
